Luthier

Rodney is a luthier dedicated to the art of handcrafting classical and flamenco guitars. His journey began in 1998 with a curiosity for restoring stringed instruments, which grew into a lifelong pursuit of excellence in guitar making.
Along the way, Rodney travelled internationally, learning from master luthiers and refining his skills through hands-on experience.
Working from his Cambridge workshop, Rodney creates one-of-a-kind instruments that combine traditional craftsmanship with careful design and tonal precision. Each guitar is built using select tonewoods and time-honoured techniques, resulting in instruments that are both visually striking and musically expressive.
His work has gained recognition both locally and abroad, including being named a finalist in the European Guitar Foundation guitar making competition in Granada, Spain.
About Rodney’s work
A deep respect for traditional guitar-making techniques, combined with a desire to create instruments that are both beautiful and responsive to the player is at the heart of Rodney’s approach.
Each guitar is individually crafted, with careful attention given to the selection of tonewoods, the voicing of the soundboard, and the fine details that influence tone, playability, and character.
Rodney is particularly drawn to the expressive qualities of classical and flamenco guitars, where subtle variations in construction can profoundly shape the musical voice of the instrument. The process is slow and deliberate, requiring patience and precision at every stage.
Ultimately, his aim is to build guitars that inspire musicians — instruments that not only sound exceptional but also invite a deep connection between player and music.
