Toni’s rural studio overlooking Mount Pirongia provides the perfect inspiration for her work!
While Toni’s life has been full of creative endeavours, it wasn’t until 2016 when she completed a course at Pennsylvania State University that she began painting seriously.
Transitioning to being a full-time artist three years later, Toni now works predominantly in acrylic, metallic pigments and resin to create flowing, abstract seascapes and landscapes that capture the mystical light of dusk and dawn.
Inspired by an initial concept, she allows each piece to be led by the flow of the paint itself, guiding the direction with intuitive ‘action’ painting then adding or removing elements with additional paint, a palette knife or brushwork.
The ‘liquid glass’ finish of her sealed art resin brings the piece to life, creating the illusion of sunlight sparkling on sand and water, amplifying the colours and giving a depth that is revealed when light plays across the surface.
“I can control the colours and the movement of the paint but ultimately the paint will blend in a different way each time, resulting in a truly unique piece that can never be replicated,” explains Toni. “With each painting I aim to lead the viewer to a place of calm contemplation, most often of the natural world but also regarding social issues or the human condition.”
Toni’s paintings can be found in the homes of art lovers and collectors both here in New Zealand and internationally. Don’t miss this opportunity to view her incredible art in person to fully appreciate its grace and depth.
